When you complete the registration process the next link you click will take you to the My Profile page. This page gives you detailed personal data for the food and exercise you record. The page provides aggregate and average data for the current day and for various periods ranging from seven to thirty days. In the months ahead you can also track your data back to the day you registered. Simply click on the pull down menu to get longitudinal information.
Still with the My Profile page the bar chart shows you at a glance how your food intake measures up against your nutrient targets. Similarly the bar chart shows you how your exercise activity compares with your calories burned goals. By clicking the My Targets toggle switch you can see how close you are to your targets in exact numbers.
Before leaving the My Profile page it is important to note that you control the calorie, nutrient, and exercise information visible on this page. You can change this information by altering the settings on the Settings page.
To get to the Settings page click the settings link. On the settings page you can add or subtract the data sets on the My Profile page by clicking in the box beside the nutrient or exercise value you want to add or subtract. After you have chosen click on the save box at the bottom of the column. Note that we continue to record the data of the hidden data set. You can retrieve that data at any time.
Also on the Settings page you have the option of changing your personal settings and your time zone. When you change your target weight you will see that the calories you are allowed to consume will also change. You will notice this change on both the My Profile page and the Nutrition page.
When you arrive at the Nutrition page - by clicking on the link at the top of the page - you will see a rectangular window with the title Search all foods above it. Begin typing the name of the food in the box. As you type you will see a list of foods appear in the larger window. Choose the name of the food you have eaten by clicking on it. The nutrient and calorie details of the food will appear directly below the large window. In the box to the left of the Record foods link type in the number of portions you ate and then click Record foods. The nutrient and calorie information will be transferred to the Daily Nutrient Totals box on the right of the screen.
To add another food repeat the process. This time the nutrient and calorie information of the second food you have recorded will be added to the initial totals in the Daily Nutrient Totals box. To retrieve information about the individual foods you recorded click on the Foods Eaten link. Once you are on the Foods Eaten page click on the food you require information on and view its information at the bottom of the page. While there you can alter the number of portions you recorded or eliminate the food entirely if you have made a mistake in the process of recording it. Clicking on the Records Food link takes you back to the main part of the Nutrition page.
When you recorded your first foods you will have noticed that the names of the foods appeared in the large box on the left of the page. You have begun constructing the list of your most often eaten foods. This list makes it easier for you to record the foods you eat most often.
One final note before leaving the Nutrition page: Although we have an extensive list of foods you may not be able to locate the name of the food you have eaten. If so you can add the food yourself. To do this click on the Create/manage your personal foods link. On this page you can record the nutrient and calorie value of the food you have eaten by typing in the values in the appropriate boxes. Once you have finished save your changes and move back to the Nutrition page. The food information you have added will be available exclusively to you on the Nutrition page.
As Calorie Connect is a wellness service we do not concentrate solely on food. The next logical step then is to go to the Exercise page by clicking on the exercise link at the top of the page. The Exercise page works very much like the Nutrition page. In the Search all exercises window type in the name of the exercise you have done and then enter the number of minutes you exercised. Click Record Exercise and the information is recorded on the right hand side of the screen. The information updates the totals for the day, week, month, and from the day you started. To add another exercise repeat the process. All the totals will be updated. To retrieve the information for a particular exercise click on the Exercises Done option and then click on the name of the exercise. You can alter the information you recorded while you are on this page. When you record your exercise information your daily allowable calorie intake will be updated on the My Profile and Nutrition pages.
Finally, for those of our members wanting more detailed analysis we have the Reports page. This page allows you to view all the data you have recorded since you joined Calorie Connect. This data is displayed in a vertical bar graph that shows you how your nutrient intake and exercise activity compares with your targets. To change the chart subject choose from the pull down menu. To change the start and end dates of the chart click on the Show advanced options link. When the new screen appears make the date changes and click on click on Redraw.
Another useful function on this page is the View a printable, text-only version of this report option. By clicking on this link you receive a report that you can print and take to your nutritionist or health care professional.
