What is Calorie Connect?

Calorie Connect is a free online wellness service. We provide the interactive personal nutrition and exercise information health conscious people need to make positive choices about their physical health and well being.

We at Calorie Connect believe that people can achieve and maintain a healthy physical lifestyle by accurately recording their diet and exercise information, and then acting positively to improve their numbers until they reach their wellness goals. To assist people in their quest to achieve their goals we have created a service that is statistically detailed while also being user-friendly. By regularly accessing their personalized pages on the Calorie Connect website our members can see at a glance if they are hitting their nutrition and exercise targets. Their daily interaction with Calorie Connect can take less than five minutes, but the subtle changes our members are encouraged to make as they monitor their food intake and exercise activity can last a lifetime.

Through the Calorie Connect website our members have access to detailed food consumption information, exercise data, and personalized charts and tables. We provide detailed personal analysis on the calories our members consume and burn. Our nutrition and profile pages help our members keep track of fourteen essential nutrients. Our exercise page allows our members to record their exercise activities and to assess their progress towards weekly and monthly goals. Finally, our reports page gives our members personal long-term detailed nutrient and exercise information.

We encourage you to use Calorie Connect regularly. In a short while you will see the changes you should make to achieve the wellness you are striving to achieve.

How much does Calorie Connect membership cost?

Calorie Connect membership is free. There are no fees or hidden costs for accessing any part of the Calorie connect website. You will never be billed.

Why do I need to give personal information to become a Calorie Connect member?

We need your height, weight, sex, and age data to create a personal profile. Without that information we cannot accurately calculate the calories you need to consume and burn to reach or maintain your recommended Body Mass Index (BMI). As an example, a 6’3’’ man burns more calories during a three mile walk than a 5’4’’ woman, therefore to give them both a default figure would be misleading and inaccurate. We also need personal data to calculate the nutrients you need to maintain a healthy diet. In the case of nutritional information age is one of the most important statistics.

We know that there is a general reluctance to surrender personal information to a website. In order to make the process less painful we have attempted to make it as transparent as possible. Unlike other sites, we do not require you to submit your real name nor do we need you to give us your e-mail address. All we need is a username, password, and the answer to a few questions. The process only takes about a minute. Your personal information is completely safe with us for the simple reason that we do not know who you are.

How do I access the rest of the Calorie Connect website?

To become a member click the 'Create profile' link and follow the instructions or enter a food name in the search box, choose a food, click the 'Get started' link and follow the instructions from there. Both paths take you to the page where you record the information we need to create a personal profile for you. Once through the registration process you are into the Calorie Connect website. You have free access to all parts of the site.

How do I navigate Calorie Connect?

While your daily interaction with the Calorie Connect website takes as little as five minutes, we suggest that you take an hour to familiarize yourself with the site when you first logon. To help you navigate the site we have created a Tutorial.

I can’t find the name of the food that I want to record?

We are constantly adding to the list of foods in the Calorie Connect database, but we are fully aware that the list we currently have is finite. So that our members can record the names of foods that are not in the database we have introduced a self-help option. On the Nutrition page click on the Create/manage your personal foods link. Once on the new page enter the name of the food you have eaten and fill in the nutrient details from the food packaging. The food name will immediately become exclusively available to you on your food search list.

What if I miss a day?

Do not worry. While Calorie Connect has its greatest impact when used daily we realise that our members occasionally want to take a break. To accommodate absences we have set Calorie Connect to ignore days with no recorded foods. This means that if you forget or are unable to record your foods for a day, a week - or even a month, you can pick up right where you left off. Your targets, averages and reports will still be accurate.
